The Bike Right Playwright - Chapter 2
    Feb 22, 2006

[The last time we checked in with our fearless biker, our groggy, sleepy-
eyed biking hero had tossed his Inner Voice out an open window.  As it
turned out, he actually tossed himself out the window and ended up in the
hospital, which is where Chapter 2 of our story picks up...]

Billy the Biker:  (still groggy, tired, and confused; laying in hospital bed;
slowly opening his eyes but is not able to see clearly)  Wh...what happened?
Where am I?

Doctor:  (in a soothing, yet strangely chipper voice)  You fell out a window
and now you're at the Tired Bike Medical Center.

Billy:  (sitting up; somewhat worried)  I...I can't see you.  How come
everything's blurry?  Who are you?

Doctor: (happily; opening the blinds)  My name is Dr. Renni Eciov.  Don't
worry.  To calm your nerves we had to give you some medication that
causes blurred vision when you first wake up.

Billy: (crawling out of bed, impatient)  Well, Mr. Off the Heazy, I feel fine
now so just give me the bill and I'll be on my way.

Doctor:  (sternly at first, then concerned)  It's pronounced E-Z Off, as in
the oven cleaner, and I'm a DOCTOR.  And before I let you go, I must
prescribe a strict weekly biking regimen for you.

Billy:  (grumpy and in disbelief) Wataya, crazy?  It's too cold out there to
bike!

Doctor:  (opening window; deeply breathing in fresh air) That's what you
kept babbling about when they brought you in...that and something about
hearing voices.  I have to tell you, though, thanks to global warming it's
even easier to enjoy biking in New England in the winter.  It's refreshing!
You and several of your closest biking buddies will be having your FIRST
SATURDAY MORNING TRAINING RIDE on MARCH 11 at 9:00 AM out of
#8 GRIFFIN CENTER in WINDSOR.  You can ride either the 10- or 25-
mile route.  And I've written down a list of things you should do before
then to get yourself and your bike ready to roll:

-Make sure your WARM biking clothes are washed and still fit you.  It'll
still be a bit chilly the first few times you go out.
-Take your bike to your favorite bike shop and have them tune it up as
soon as you can because they'll be booking up pretty fast as soon as Spring
comes.
-Check all your gear like shoes, jerseys, helmet, bike rack, air pump, and
so on to ensure they still fit, work, etc.
-Replace your old water bottles with new ones so that you don't end up
drinking out of moldy plastic the whole season.
-Start stocking up on your biking victuals...Cliff Bars, Gatorade, and
pretzels are what you lived on last year.

[The doctor hands the list to his patient, who then crumples it up and
throws it on the floor.]

Doctor:  (chuckling) You're grumpy when you wake up, aren't you?

Billy:  (in shock)  Wait a minute...that's exactly what that voice said.  Some
inner voice I kept hearing.  What'd you say your name is?

[As Billy the Biker stares at the doctor's nametag, his eyes widen in
disbelieving horror.  He lets out a scream and jumps out the window.]

Doctor Renni Eciov:  (laughing)  I was wondering when he would catch on to
reading my name backwards.
